Becoming Catholic – RCIA & RCIC

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is the process through which interested adults can learn about and enter into the Catholic Church.  This process is guided by the Holy Spirit and can begin at any time throughout the year.  A catechumenate group of participants meet on a regular basis throughout the year to discuss the teachings of the Church and discern how God is speaking to them on their faith journey.  Initiation for candidates (previously baptized)  may be celebrated throughout the year while the catechumens (or un-baptized) are initiated during the Easter Vigil.  A sponsor prayerfully accompanies each catechumen or candidate on their journey as they seek Gods’ will for their lives.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is a program for children who are either entering the faith or preparing for the sacraments and are beyond the age when the sacraments are traditionally received.  Each catechumen or candidate is accompanied by a sponsor as he or she prepares for full membership through the sacrament of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) generally  celebrated at the Easter Vigil.
